Mom, boyfriend sought in burning, beating death of 4-year-old girl

The U.S. Marshal Service recently announced a $5,000 reward to anyone who aided in the direct arrest of Fields and Diaz, who were wanted in the death of a 4-year-old girl, police say.

Candice Diaz, the girl's mother, and her boyfriend Brad Fields were arrested Tuesday in Lake Park, Georgia off I-75 near the state line of Florida.

Diaz's daughter, Gabrielle Barrett, died after being found with severe burns New Year's Day in a mobile home in Sumpter Township.

Family members were administering CPR when officers arrived, police said. She had severe burns to her body and was pronounced dead at an Ann Arbor Hospital.

The coroner ruled the death a homicide due to signs of battered child syndrome.

Police announced Monday a manhunt is on for Diaz and Fields.

"She didn't have to pass the way she did, but I hope we get justice for her really soon", Barrett said.

Both Diaz and Fields are being charged with murder.

"She's just a little angel".

5 deputies shot, 1 fatally, in shooting near Denver
A source in the sheriff's office told KKTV that the situation is "not looking good for us" as deputies were shot at. Residents living in the vicinity were asked to take shelter in place, and avoid windows and exterior walls.

Police were sent to the home May 20, 2016, on a report of a domestic assault.

Diaz was able to escape to the community clubhouse to call police, according to the report. The second page makes clear that donations will be used by Gabby's father, Kyle Barrett, to lay his daughter to rest.

Along with discovering blood inside the home, an investigator noted this: "The smell in the house was quite foul due to old garbage, decaying food, uncleaned dishes, dog urine on the living room floor, dog feces in the children's room, a rabbit with unchanged wood shavings and general uncleanliness".

Fields was charged with aggravated domestic violence, possession of a firearm as a felon and felony firearm, but the charges were ultimately dropped, according to court records.

Police said the woman claimed she owned weapons that had been confiscated, including one that had the serial number filed off it.

In 2006, Fields pleaded guilty to carrying an unauthorized concealed weapon and served a year of probation.

"We didn't know. We would have gone" and removed her from the home, he said.

"She was an overall wonderful kid".
