Four policemen killed in Sopore IED blast

Showkat Ahmad Ahangar, the elder brother of police constable Ghulam Nabi who was among four policemen killed in IED blast in Sopore on Saturday, appealed the worldwide community to come forward and help in resolving the Kashmir issue.

Militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad claimed the responsibility for the attack, according to a local news agency. It killed an assistant sub-inspector and three constables, damaged six shops and left a huge crater.

Militants had planted the IED near a shop in a lane between the "Chotta Bazaar" and "Bada Bazaar" in Sopore.

The separatist groups had called for a shutdown in Sopore area to commemorate the 25th anniversary of a fire incident in which they claimed 57 civilians were killed and several houses burned.

J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti expressed grief over the deaths of the cops.
