Egyptian soccer star Mohamed Salah named African Player of the Year

Patson Daka, who played an integral role in getting Zambia to the Federation Internationale de Football Association U-20 World Cup quarter-finals at Korea Republic 2017, won the youth player of the year award.

On the global stage he was hugely instrumental in both Egypt's Africa Cup of Nations success - the North African team made it to the final - and also World Cup qualification for the Pharaohs.

Senegal's Sadio Mane was the first runner while Gabon global Aubameyang finished third.

Mohamed Salah is the second Egyptian player to win this award after Mahmoud El-Khatib, who won the title in 1983.
