'SNL' hammers President Trump over Puerto Rico response

Criticism of federal relief efforts continues to intensify as numerous supplies that have been delivered to the island remain out of the hands of the communities that need them.

Last night, Cruz wore a "Help Us We Are Dying" shirt while being was interviewed by Cooper. "It is unspeakable. And I don't know what world Trump is living in". San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz declined to join the new war of words, but instead called for a united focus on the people who need help.

Trump was already under fire from some USA lawmakers, who accused him of not giving sufficient importance to the situation and responding too slowly to the crisis in Puerto Rico, where the electrical infrastructure was totally destroyed and the people are having to wait in extremely long lines for food, fuel, water and cash.

Most of the USA territory's 3.4 million residents remain without power and have struggled to find clean water and fuel 11 days after the hurricane.

On September 29, the United States government received criticism from the mayor of San Juan, Carmen Yulín Cruz, who pointed out that the federal relief effort provided after the natural disasters would be useless if the logistics issue was not solved.

Sen. Bernie Sanders said President Donald Trump's attack on the mayor of San Juan is "unspeakable". "We appreciate all the FEMA workers who are here, they're doing such a great job".

Cruz's comments came after Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Elaine Duke told reporters at the White House on Thursday that the administration's response so far "is a good-news story in terms of our ability to reach people".

"The problem that we have with the mayor unfortunately is that unity of command is ultimately what's needed to be successful in this response", Long told CNN's Fredricka Whitfield.

Eleven days after Hurricane Maria hit, Puerto Rico still looks like a war zone.

Blumenthal adds the temporary suspension of the Jones Act, which requires goods shipped between points in the United States to be carried by USA built and operated boats, does not go far enough.

"Miranda specifically took up the charge for defending Cruz, who he insisted "[had] been working 24/7" on the ground in Puerto Rico while Trump "[had] been GOLFING".

The Broadway star, whose parents moved to NY from Puerto Rico, said he is working on a new song to raise for disaster relief.
