Domestic Flights Grounded at Sydney Airport

It was reported this morning that an air traffic control system fault had grounded flights trying to depart Sydney airport.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Sydney Airport and Airservices Australia, which is responsible for air traffic control.

Dozens of flights were cancelled while many more were experiencing delays of more than two hours, reports the ABC News. As a result, only one of eight air traffic control consoles operated during the morning peak.

Some flights have started up again, but Airport officials have warned passengers should expect lengthy delays.

Meanwhile, Auckland Airport's website showed several flights from Auckland to Wellington, Dunedin, Napier and Whanganui had been cancelled or delayed.

England vs West Indies scorecard
He received a standing ovation all around the ground and England totalled 369-9 with 93 coming off the last six overs. His century also included seven fours, with the left-hander needing a mere 12 balls for his second fifty.

Ms Ibbottson said the airlines had not handled the situation well.

She said passengers had spent more than an hour on board QF506 while the plane waited on the tarmac, but only passengers with no check-in baggage were allowed to get off.

This feeds into the radar picture and without it, controllers can not see which plane is which.

The airport's digital flight display includes a message reading "delayed to ATC radar failure", according to a Twitter image.

Travellers should contact their airline for flight updates.
