Iran unveils latest ballistic missile

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani had vowed to strengthen his country's military and ballistic capabilities in a live speech on state TV.

Friday's parade also showcased various Iranian army units and Revolutionary Guard forces, as well as the police.

Rouhani stressed that Iran would strengthen its defense power to the extent it deems necessary.

President Donald Trump has threatened to junk the agreement over the issue, saying that Iran's missile programme could give it the technical knowhow for a delivery system for a nuclear warhead with the expiration of a sunset clause in the deal in 2025.

Although the US State Department admits that Iran has not violated the agreement, they have stated that the ballistic missile tests breach the spirit of the agreement, as it would be relatively easy to modify a ballistic missile to carry a nuclear warhead.

Video of the test launch aired on Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) on Friday.

"You are seeing images of the successful test of the Khorramshahr ballistic missile with the range of 2,000 km [1,200 miles], the latest missile of our country", state television said.

New Zealand Polls Close After Nail-Biting Race, Record Numbers Vote in Advance
Farmer and former policeman Matt King holds a 1299-vote lead over Mr Peters with more than 96 per cent of the vote counted. Ardern and English were expected to maintain fiscal prudence, but to differ on monetary policy, trade and immigration.

Trump has denounced Iran as a "rogue regime" and said its government was bent on "death and destruction".

The test comes at the end of a heated week of diplomacy at the UN General Assembly, where both the United States and Israel denounced Iran and its nuclear deal with six world powers.

One major sticking point of the JCPOA is that Iran has been "called upon not to undertake any activity related to ballistic missiles created to be capable of delivering nuclear weapons, including launches using such ballistic missile technology".

Iran has tested a new ballistic missile capable of hitting targets 1,200 miles away, according to state media.

It's been known that Iran has had a missile with a range capable of reaching Israel, said Mark Fitzpatrick, executive director of the Institute for Internal Strategic Studies-Americas, a think tank.

Fitzpatrick agrees it would be a good idea to extend the Iran nuclear deal to include ballistic missiles.

Rouhani afterward told a news conference that the Trump administration is seeking "an excuse" to pull out of the landmark 2015 nuclear agreement that capped Iran's nuclear activities in return for the lifting of worldwide sanctions on Iran.
