Is Vancouver a viable destination for Amazon HQ2?

Is Vancouver a viable destination for Amazon HQ2?

With its announcement Thursday, Amazon set off a insane corporate-Olympics contest - and one big thought experiment on the future of some American cities. Proposals are due next month, with selection and announcement slated for 2018.

"Delaware may be small, but that's what makes us so nimble when it comes to creating a nurturing environment for business", said Sen Tom Carper (D-Delaware). Incentives from local and state governments will be "significant factors in the decision-making process". The area has a highly educated population and a growing pool of young workers. In the image of its founder, Jeff Bezos, Amazon is oriented toward the long-term like few other entities in business. "A company that is continuing to break molds and barriers deserves a city that is doing the same". And yes, that's true even as it develops robots and artificial intelligence.

To offer some perspective, this notional headquarters won't be a mere satellite warehouse, a "mini" version, or an expansion of the Seattle site. In its announcement, the group states that the construction, in 2010, the headquarters of Seattle has allowed the region to recover approximately $ 38 billion of other investments. But Amazon sees the limits to its growth here. "We have a great place to live". "Seattle Mayor Ed Murray is one of them; he pushed a $15 minimum wage law that has cost the poorest the most, and won a tax hike on higher earners earlier this summer".

"This was like an open letter to city leaders saying, 'Who wants Amazon and all our jobs?'" Badertscher said.

"At full build-out, the campus or park may exceed 8 million square feet and over $5 billion in total capital investment", it told potential bidders. That would be enough space for about 60,000 employees-just five years down the traffic-choked road.

Amazon's second headquarters-HQ2-would employ 50,000 more. It is already the eighth-largest USA employer.

The company is looking for a location with strong local and regional talent, focused in the areas of software development and related fields.

However, with U.S. President Donald Trump's America First stance, there may be political pressure for Amazon to establish its second headquarters within its own borders, she said. Seattle is overdue for a major quake, one that could cripple the region for months-a fact that is surely not lost on Bezos, a man accustomed to thinking on geologic time scales (he's building a 10,000-year clock as a side project).

So what will it take to get the Amazon headquarters to be built here in St. Louis?

Anderson versus Carreño Busta: Who wins the service game?
This time, he takes on those two greats of the game in reverse order: del Potro beat Federer in the quarterfinals Wednesday. The No. 28 seed Anderson had been broken only three times in his first 90 service games in the tournament.

"We want to find a city that is excited to work with us and where our customers, employees, and the community can all benefit", Amazon said. It's an understandable reaction. "In fact, next year, we'll add three new direct flights".

"I don't think Seattle's anti-business".

And, lest we forget, are your city fathers prepared to fork over a king's ransom in financial incentives and other inducements?

The U.S. Census estimated Fresno's population at 522,053 as of July 1 of previous year, but it's not clear if populations of Clovis and other, nearby communities might be considered in Amazon's consideration process.

"A similar layout to Amazon's Seattle campus".

But does Arizona realistically have a shot at securing Amazon's HQ2? It may be disappointing, but also unsurprising. It's not so much the jobs as becoming a focal point for growth.

The online giant, based in Seattle, says that the new site would come with up to 50,000 jobs.

"This move will not be cost driven".

In Tulsa, however, wheels are already in motion for the city to make a formal bid for Amazon's new headquarters.
