Lewis wins for Houston, donates $195K check

The American golfing star had promised earlier in the week to donate her prize money to the Hurricane Harvey relief effort.

Brooke Henderson popped to the top of the leaderboard Friday afternoon at the Cambia Portland Classic in OR, as she aims for her third straight LPGA championship in this tournament.

Though the win was all about helping others, Lewis also heaved a sigh of relief for getting "the monkey off my back" and knowing she could "hit the shots when I need to and hit the putts when I need to".

Lewis finished 20-under, one shot ahead of In Gee Chun.

Hurricane Harvey continues to wreak havoc across Texas, forcing over 43,000 people to evacuate their homes.

Chun has four runner-up finishes in 2017 but hasn't yet cracked the winner's circle. She carded 17-under through 54 holes.

Chelsea midfielder Bakayoko on Drinkwater talk: He doesn't scare me!
The Blues take on Leicester City in their next Premier League game at the King Power Stadium after the worldwide break. But I'm ready in every case to continue to work with the players we have'.

"It has been so hard being away from home and my family the last week", Lewis said in a statement she posted on the social media website.

Lewis grew up in The Woodlands, outside Houston, and lives nearby with Chadwell, so it was especially hard for her to be away from home when the hurricane hit with calamitous impact. Both of her LPGA Tour victories have come in majors - the 2015 U.S. Women's Open and the 2016 Evian Championship.

But the 32-year-old finally got over the line to lift the 12th LPGA title of her stellar career, and she is projected to jump to fifth place in the Race to CME Globe standings.

But Chun was unable to find the birdie she needed over the final two holes to force a play-off, and Lewis held her composure to complete an emotional win with her 11th consecutive par.

'What we're going to be able to do, we're going to be able to help people rebuild houses and get their homes back. She also broke through in Portland after finishing second twice - two strokes behind Suzann Pettersen in 2013 and four shots behind Brooke Henderson previous year. Chun missed a short birdie putt at the par-4 14th, and pulled to within a stroke with a 45-foot birdie at the par-3 16th. "Seems to be working so far", Henderson said. But there was, of course, the unavoidable fact that her last LPGA win was in June 2014, at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship. If she finishes second she would earn US$120,000.

"Felt like any hole I could make birdie on". "It's nice to see yourself do that again".
