Tropical Storm Watch: Heavy Rain & Wind Heading to NC Coast

The wanna-be Irma was trying to develop off of Georgia's coast on Sunday and chances of the low pressure system churning into a tropical or subtropical cyclone were gaining strength.

While Hurricane Harvey devastates the western Gulf Coast region, a weak tropical system may form off the Southeastern U.S. coast early this week, per the National Weather Service office in Newport/Morehead City.

Some of the heaviest rains locally in recent days occurred in the Cooper City area, Baxter said, with radar indicating accumulations of up to 6 inches. Winds could reach up to 63 knots (72 mph) during a tropical storm.

The Irving-Thomas trade can go a thousand different directions
While this is the case for most teams playing against the defending champions, it only get worse at the other end of the floor. The Cs were the No. 1 seed in the East, hosting James and the Cavs in a best-of-seven for the right to head to the Finals.

This system is NOT expected to majorly strengthen, but monitor the latest forecasts closely! Strong and damaging winds are not likely.

Closer to home, there is a broad low pressure stretching across north-central Florida producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms. On the forecast track, the system will move slowly toward the SC coast tonight and Monday. The current forecast has the northeastern NC coastline seeing winds starting to build on Monday to 20-30 miles per hour from the NE, with rainy conditions and hazardous surf conditions to include life threatening rip currents through Wednesday.

Regardless of how the system develops, the low was expected to cause increased winds and rough surf along the Georgia, North and SC coasts on Sunday and through mid-week. Rough surf, rip currents and coastal flooding are anticipated Monday and Tuesday along the coast from Georgia to the mid-Atlantic.
