World's oldest man, Holocaust survivor Yisrael Kristal dies at age 113

Kristal lived in Haifa, Israel, and made headlines in 2016 for celebrating his bar mitzvah 100 years late.

Polish-born Yisrael Kristal died on Friday, a month before he was due to turn 114, Israeli media reported. "He used to run barefoot through the night for many kilometres with a heavy package on his back, aged about 12 years old, smuggling alcohol between the lines of the war", Oren Kristal said.

He was born in 1903 to an Orthodox Jewish family near the town of Zarnow in Poland.

According to Israeli news site Ynet, Kristal is survived by two children, nine grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.

His wife and two children were killed in the camp but Kristal survived, weighing just 37 kilos at the end of the war.

Israel Kristal was certified past year by Guinness World Records as the world's oldest living man.

Wenger Wants The Ox To Stay And Become An Arsenal Great
The Blues have launched a £35m bid to get him, and Oxlade-Chamberlain is interested in making the move. Today he is conscious of his qualities.

When asked at the time what his secret was to long life, Kristal said: "I don't know the secret for long life".

Kristal was sent to various concentration camps including Auschwitz where he performed slave labor, and he only weighed about 81 pounds when he was found by the Allies. "All that is left for us to do is to keep on working as hard as we can and rebuild what is lost".

The sole survivor from his family, Mr Kristal emigrated to Israel in 1950 with his second wife and their son, where he continued to run his confectionery business until his retirement.

Kristal, a Holocaust survivor, had his bar mitzvah when he was 113.

The world's oldest person is 117-year-old Violet-Mosse Brown of Jamaica.
