Manufacturer says corrosion caused ride to break apart

In a statement released on Sunday, Albert Kroon, product manager for the ride's manufacturer KMG International, said that the corrosion of a support beam was the cause of the accident, finding that "excessive corrosion on the interior of the gondola support beam dangerously reduced the beam's wall thickness over the years", ABC News reports.

"This finally led to the catastrophic failure of the ride during operation", Kroon said, noting that it eventually resulted in the passenger-carrying gondola to detach from the supporting sweep arm of the ride.

Last month one rider was killed and seven others were injured when part of the Fireball ride came apart, sending the riders through the air and onto the ground.

KMG said it is working with safety experts on the inspection process after what happened.

Jarrell's girlfriend Keziah Lewis also was on the ride, The Washington Post reported.

New assembly dividing Venezuela begins work
Britain's foreign secretary has also criticized Venezuela's President Nicholas Maduro for his arrest of two opposition leaders. Lopez remains incarcerated, one of hundreds of what the opposition called political prisoners.

OH state officials said the ride had been inspected multiple times before it malfunctioned.

All other rides on the fair's midway were ordered shut down the night of the accident but eventually reopened.

State officials said the Fire Ball had been inspected just hours before the crash. He was about to begin his senior year in high school and had enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps the week before he was killed.

A 2013 study by the Center for Injury Research and Policy at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, found that on average during the summer, 20 children a day are treated in emergency rooms for injuries related to amusement rides.

Jarrell's family has hired a civil attorney to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit, according to the Associated Press.
