Fox News accused of working with Trump administration on Seth Rich conspiracy

It alleges a May 16 article sought to promote a claim that a murdered Democratic National Committee staffer was the source of leaked DNC emails during last year's election campaign, and not Russian hackers as the USA intelligence community has said.

Wheeler alleges in his suit that a Fox News reporter, Malia Zimmerman, made up two quotes in the story and attributed them to him.

Fox News claims that there's no evidence that Malia misquoted Wheeler in a story that has been retracted from, something else that Fox News says they are investigating.

The suit also presents a text message Wheeler allegedly received from Butowsky, in which the latter states that Trump previewed the article and wanted to see it published as soon as possible.

"Fox News vehemently denies the race discrimination claims in the lawsuit - the dispute between Zimmerman and Rod Wheeler has nothing to do with race", Wallace, president of News for Fox News, said in his statement to USA TODAY. The suit also alleges Butowsky left a message on Wheeler's phone, insisting "we have the full, uh, attention of the White House, on this". Wheeler, a former Washington, D.C. detective and a Fox News contributor since 2005, said some of his comments were manipulated by officials in the Trump administration.

But the day the story was published, Spicer denied having foreknowledge of the Fox News report, saying during the White House press briefing that "I'm not aware of that... it would be highly inappropriate to do that".

A private investigator who was put at the center of a controversial report on the death of a murdered Democratic National Committee operative is alleging he was placed there against his will by employees of Fox News Channel.

Washington D.C. police say Rich was killed during a botched robbery. "But don't feel the pressure".

"Ed Butowsky had an opportunity to look the American people in the eye and the Seth Rich family in the eye and say, you know what, six months after I reached out to you, knowing what I know now, I can not believe I put you in this position, and I am so, so sorry." said Bauman. Spicer confirmed that talking to Butowsky, saying he "asked for a 10 minute meeting". "He wants the article out immediately".

To lend clout to this theory, Zimmerman and Butowsky fabricated two quotes and attributed them to Wheeler, the lawsuit claims.

Now comes more intrigue, as former Sputnik News White House correspondent, Andrew Feinberg, made an announcement which seems, at least on the surface, to implicate Vladimir Putin himself as one of the conspirators in creating and pushing the Seth Rich story.

Trump is also said to have pushed for the report in order to distract attention away from the investigation into his campaign's collusion with the Russian's during the 2016 presidential election. In a statement, Spicer said Tuesday, "Ed is a longtime supporter of the president's agenda who often appears in the media".

The story, originally published on May 16, 2017, cited information from an unnamed Federal Bureau of Investigation official and also attributed two quotes to Wheeler, both of which he now denies ever saying.
