Trump Taps Retired Marine General For White House Chief Of Staff

Former White House Chief of Staff Andy Card ripped as "tawdry, awkward" President Donald Trump's removal of Reince Priebus and replacement with Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly.

"Reince Priebus did a good job as chief of staff", said Sen. Trump praised the former Marine general as a "great American" and a "great leader".

Kelly, 67, a retired four-star Marine Corps general, is now secretary of the Department of Homeland Security and will assume the chief of staff post on Monday.

Priebus' already tense relationship with Anthony Scaramucci took a darker turn over the past 24 hours when the communications chief suggested in a late-night tweet that Priebus was one of the "leakers" that President Donald Trump has railed against. We accomplished a lot together and I am proud of him!

The president has grown obsessed in recent months with White House information leaking into the press, and Scaramucci is convinced Priebus has been responsible.

At some point, those supporters have to wonder what the end game of all of this is, apart from keeping us all entertained and fomenting a narrative that a media who documents this chaos is out to get the president.

This would not be Nielsen's first time working in the White House.

The former Republican National Committee chairman faced a hard task from the outset as he attempted to wrangle a hodgepodge of rival staff factions divided by ideology and allegiance, his influence supplanted by several other top advisers - including the President's own kin - who reported directly to Trump and not to the chief of staff.

US Navy Fires Warning Shots Toward Iranian Ship During 'Tense Encounter'
Last month, a Navy Fifth Fleet spokesman, Commander Bill Urban, told Newsweek that an Iranian vessel trained a laser on a U.S. It happened at around 03:00 local time (00:00 GMT), as the Iranian ship began to approach the USS Thunderbolt .

And while his four years in charge of Gitmo were all under President Obama, who promised (but failed) to shut down Guantanamo, Kelly was in favour of keeping the military prison open.

Kelly, waves as he steps off stage after speaking at the Homeland Security Department in Washington, Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017. The entire Administration loves him and no one is comparable.

White House chief strategist Steve Bannon is expected to stay, at least for now, sources told CNN. He also accused Mr Priebus of being behind the flow of damaging leaks about the White House and said he was going to ask the FBI to investigate him.

Priebus also told CNN his departure was so amicable the president had even been open to him weighing in on who should replace him.

It was an inglorious swan song for the former Republican National Committee chairman and senior Trump official, whose control over the White House staff was tenuous from the start. John has also done a spectacular job at Homeland Security.

On Thursday, The New Yorker posted an interview with Scaramucci that included a profanity-laced tirade against Priebus. "We've gotten to know each other very well".

In a statement, Kelly said he was honoured to be asked to serve as the chief of staff.
