Remains found in Dartmouth belong to fugitive wanted for 1980 murder

The investigation into the slaying of a Pennsylvania police chief in 1980 continues after authorities said they found what they believe to be human remains at a MA home Thursday.

Donald Eugene Webb, a fugitive since the shooting death of police chief Gregory Adams, was one of the longest-tenured members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation list.

She spoke to WBZ-TV phone about the discovery of suspect Donald Webb's remains behind his ex-wife's home.

An autopsy was being performed Friday to establish if they are the remains of career criminal Donald Eugene Webb.

He was on the FBI's Top Ten Most Wanted Fugitives List for more than 20 years.

Last month, the Post-Gazette reported that a secret room had been found inside Webb's ex-wife's home.

"For nearly 37 years, the family of Chief Adams and the citizens of Saxonburg have been awaiting news of Donald Eugene Webb's whereabouts", Shaw said in a news release.

Saxonburg police Chief Joe Beachem and Mayor Bill Gillespie were driving back to Saxonburg from Lillian Webb's home in MA as the news of the remains being identified came in.

Investigators believe he died about 17 years ago, but declined to say how he died.

"No. No. The man got away with murder", Adams Jones said.

Thomas King III says he was told by prosecutors that Lillian Webb agreed to lead authorities to her husband in exchange for immunity in the decadeslong criminal investigation.

"They didn't forget him - they honored the chief and despite how many years it took, the final result that's proven today - that that's Donald Eugene Webb - is a result of a lot of unbelievable work by law enforcement".

Webb's vehicle was found in Warwick, Rhode Island after the murder.

Gregg Miliote, a spokesman for the Bristol County District Attorney's Office in MA said Webb's cause of death has not yet been determined, but it 'does not appear his death was the result of a violent act'.

"She never gave a thought to me and my family".

The remains of a fugitive wanted in the 1980 slaying of a Pennsylvania police chief were recovered from the back of the MA home of his former wife, USA authorities said on Friday. The cause listed in the paperwork is "desertion".
