GOP chairman plans to call on Donald Trump Jr

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), chairman of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, has requested information on why Natalia Veselnitskaya, a Russian lawyer, was allowed to enter the United States without a visa.

"My motive for bringing him to the committee is because of other involvements with whether or not the Foreign Agent Registration Act has been adequately enforced by this administration and by the Obama administration because I think it's been lackadaisical enforcement and he would be an example of that lackadaisical enforcement", Grassley said, as reported by the Des Moines Register.

President Donald Trump's eldest son released an email chain Tuesday that shows him discussing plans to hear damaging information on Hillary Clinton that were described as "part of Russian Federation and its government's support for Mr. Trump".

"We will subpoena him if necessary", Grassley said of Manafort during a conference call with reporters Wednesday.

Paul Manafort already has volunteered to talk to congressional intelligence committees investigating whether there was any collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government attempting to interfere in the 2016 presidential election.

Trump Jr. has said that while he would have probably handled the meeting request differently now, he believes he did nothing wrong by hearing out someone offering information about a political opponent during a heated political campaign.

Trump says "most people would have taken that meeting", contradicting his incoming Federal Bureau of Investigation director's testimony that Donald Trump Jr. should have instead alerted authorities.

The panel is investigating Russian meddling in the USA election.

US President Donald Trump 'to visit United Kingdom in 2018'
Donald Trump's state visit to the United Kingdom will take place next year , senior Government sources have told The Independent . President Trump won't be calling on London for the time being.

In response to calls for him to testify before the intelligence panel, Trump Jr. tweeted Monday that he was "happy to work with the committee to pass on what I know".

The senator from the USA state of Iowa added that if necessary, he will subpoena Manafort.

The lawmakers spoke one day after Donald Trump Jr. disclosed on Twitter a series of emails that revealed his eagerness to hear negative material on Clinton from a Russian lawyer.

On Sunday, Trump Jr. issued a statement, in which he said it had become clear during the meeting that Veselnitskaya had no meaningful information on the Democratic National Committee's links with Russia-connected individuals.

Trump also questioned whether Putin was really gunning for his victory, as USA intelligence agencies have concluded.

A further three pages of emails show that arrangements were then made between the President's son and the contact, public relations specialist Rob Goldstone, to meet on June 9, 2016.

Still Trump remains defiant.
