Disney to remove 'wench' auction from Pirates of the Caribbean ride

"At this rate I fear that the entire ride will disappear one day as pirates were not historically moral nor politically correct".

The brides are being taken off the block in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disney theme parks. A banner reads: "AUCTION-Take a Wench for a Bride". Another oft-criticized scene in the ride, in which pirates originally chased women, was altered in 1997 to feature hungry pirates chasing women carrying food - and one woman chasing a pirate.

The a video of the ride went viral previous year when Johnny Depp acted as Captain Jack Sparrow. Via those lifelike audio animatronic characters, we watch a pirate sell off women at auction, with the crowd chanting "We want the redhead!" According to Disney, the redhead is holding a rifle and will be a "plundering pirate" in the new scene.

This is not the first time the venerable Disneyland attraction has undergone modifications. Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise has also been added (sometimes even in real-life when there's a new movie to promote) as well as the addition of Davy Jones at the end of the ride.

Google to stop scanning Gmail for ad personalization
The new changes are expected to make customers feel more secure and satisfied knowing that their emails are not being scanned . The company states that "consumer Gmail content will not be used or scanned for any ads personalisation after this change".

The red head who is among those being auctioned off the moment guests come through now will become a pirate when the ride is altered, according to Disney. The redheaded woman from the original scene will return in the new edition as a pirate who gathers items to auction off to pirates. The Disney Parks Blog also noted changes to the "Pirates" ride at Disneyland Paris.

"That's what the Imagineers have done with this new auction scene - it's like a theatre show with a new act, " said Sklar, who retired as head of Walt Disney Imagineering, which designs park attractions for the company worldwide. Yeah, I'm going to miss this scene because it's a fascinating time capsule depicting what was totally okay for a family attraction over 50 years ago.

The changes will be unveiled on July 24 in Disneyland Paris, and sometime in 2018 in Walt Disney World and Disneyland. What do you think of the changes coming to Pirates of the Caribbean? "Change is a "tradition" at Disneyland that today's Imagineers practice", he explained to the Orange County Register this week.
