Sheriff David Clarke Accused of Plagiarizing Thesis May Not Get DHS Post

Wisconsin sheriff and outspoken Donald Trump supporter David Clark reportedly plagiarized parts of his college master's thesis on USA security, according to evidence uncovered by CNN.

CNN's KFile reported Saturday evening that Clarke's thesis on USA security fails to give proper attribution its sources a whopping 47 times.

While he noted his sources via footnotes, Clarke did not use quotation marks to denote he was using another author's exact words, CNN found.

According to the Naval Postgraduate School's academic integrity guidelines, a lack of accurate quotation would constitute as plagiarism. The cable network reported some of the plagiarised passages were taken from ACLU reports, the 9/11 Commission Report, a Washington Post article and a Pew Research Center report.

Without commenting on the claims in their reporting, Sheriff David Clark snarled at the CNN team that says he plagiarized repeatedly almost four dozen times in his master's thesis. WUWM's Ann-Elise Henzl reports on Clarke's rhetoric and actions, and how they caught the attention of both admirers and critics.

Senator Lindsey Graham: Special Russia probe appears to be 'criminal investigation'
But his reputation has come under fierce attack in the past week over the memo he wrote about Comey. Calls for a special investigation mounted after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey last week.

Mere days after it was announced he would be joining the Trump administration as assistant secretary for the Department of Homeland Security, Sheriff David Clarke was outed as an alleged plagiarist. The Trump administration has yet to confirm his position. He tweeted: "This guy is a hired gun - Sheriff ask him who paid for the article". The sheriff responded to the report on Twitter by calling CNN reporter Andrew Kaczynski a "political hack" and a "sleaze bag". Specifically, Clarke, a former Trump surrogate, said he'll be working in the department's Office of Partnership and Engagement as a liaison for state, local, and tribal law enforcement. Federal officials have yet to confirm that Clarke will receive an appointment.

Clarke campaigned for Trump during the 2016 election and has been one of his most prominent supporters since the election. At least four people died in Clarke's jail between April 2015 and November 2016, including a newborn baby who had been born inside the jail without the jail staff knowing. He has criticized the Black Lives Matter movement, which grew out of protests over a number of police killings of unarmed black men, as "subhuman creeps". This on top of criticism of his management of a Milwaukee County Jail where, according to prosecutors, an inmate died of dehydration after being deprived of water for a week.

Clark said on Wednesday that he had accepted a job as assistant secretary at the Department of Homeland Security.

Sheriff Clarke, original words matter.
