Saturday rain, Sunday shine

Rain will be steady and heavy at times between midnight and daybreak on Saturday.

Clouds will lower and thicken today after some partial sun in spots during the morning, as the clouds move from south to north. High temperatures will stay in the low 70s Thursday and Friday, warming into the upper 70s Saturday and low 80s Sunday.

Showers and thunderstorms continue across parts of East Alabama at midafternoon, and new showers are forming over the western counties of the state as an upper trough moves in from the west.

The rain and chance of storms continues through the evening and overnight. Showers and storms are expected to impact the area from the afternoon into the night, lingering for some into the start of our weekend. Rain totals will likely add up to a third to a half of an inch, with isolated amounts closing in on an inch.

Sunday features increasing sunshine and highs in the mid 70s.

A dry start to our Friday morning will give way to a window of opportunity for some much-needed rain later today. Highs will remain in the 50s near the coast courtesy of an onshore wind, but we'll again climb into the 60s farther inland.

The weekend will be lovely from beginning to end. The balance of the day will be mainly cloudy, but a few passing showers will be possible.

Saturday: Mostly Cloudy. Scattered Rain/Storms (70%).

TUESDAY: Mostly sunny skies and warm conditions will be around for Tuesday with a high of 84 degrees. Out of the past 5 years, only last year had rain lasting into Mother's Day afternoon.
